How tall can an accessory building be in Rochester Hills?
One story. In residential districts a detached accessory structure is limited to one story. The exact height cap depends on the roof: 14 feet with a roof pitch under 4/12, or 16 feet with a pitch of 4/12 or steeper (§ 138-10.102.C). A steeper roof earns two extra feet, but the one-story limit holds either way.
An attached garage works differently. Any structure within 10 feet of the main building, or connected to it by a breezeway of 70 square feet or more, counts as part of the main building (§ 138-10.101). The main building may reach 2 stories and 30 or 35 feet depending on the district (§ 138-5.100, Table 6), so an attached garage follows those numbers, not the accessory cap.
